London Jazz Festival: NYJO 60
Woolwich Works, Fireworks Factory, SE18 6HD , [Venue Details]Formerly known as the National Youth Jazz Orchestra, NYJO has grown from a single jazz orchestra into a vibrant, varied organisation delivering engaging participation projects and impactful live performances for everyone.
We are a registered charity dedicated to making jazz and improvised music more accessible to young people and audiences around the UK.
This year, NYJO turns 60 and we’re hosting an all-day celebration at our home venue in Woolwich Works where you can experience the breadth of our work – performances by our under 18 musicians, led by the brilliant Winston Clifford and Olivia Murphy; a panel discussion with current NYJO musicians and alumni, hosted by Kevin Le Gendre; and a special big band project celebrating Nina Simone’s 1982 album “Fodder On My Wings” led my NYJO musician, trumpet player and bandleader Olivia Cuttill and featuring a range of surprise guests!
Join us in celebrating 60 years of NYJO and looking ahead at the next 60 years of UK jazz.
