Tonight the ‘All Stars’ will perform film music from the 1950s to the present day with re-imagined arrangements of music you would never expect to hear played in this setting.

From the 1950s onward, film music evolved dramatically and branched out of the lush orchestral scores of earlier, using new textures including jazz, pop and even electronic music. Bernard Herman created some of the finest scores ever written – like Vertigo and Psycho and Taxi Driver - pushing instruments and players to their limits to create amazing effects. Surprisingly, Leonard Bernstein’s only film score was On The Waterfront, a fusion of ‘classical’ and ‘street’ - almost a new genre at the time (1954). John Barry composed lavish themes for Dances With Wolves and Out Of Africa, and John Williams has written so many scores that you could easily dedicate an entire evening just to his music. Close Encounters of the Third Kind, ET, Schindler's List, Catch Me If You Can and Harry Potter. In addition to these themes, there will be music by Ennio Morricone, Michel Legrand, Vangelis, Thomas Newman, and of course, Henry Mancini
