Joe Mansfield & the Temperance Two

Green Note Ltd, The Basement Bar, NW1 7AN , [Venue Details]

Joe Mansfield & the Temperance Two are bringing driving fiddle-led folk music from the mountains of America into the city of Bristol and beyond.

Friday,
16 Jan 2026
@8.00pm

The band came together in 2021 through Bristol’s rich scene of trad acoustic sessions and a shared passion for Appalachian folk music. Fiddler and vocalist Joe Mansfield (formerly of alt-country bands Count to Fire and The Standing Waves) was joined by guitarist Kai Carter (Follywren) and Yannick Allerton (Barbican) a fresh ‘lockdown’ adopter of clawhammer banjo.

Finding and sharing these swift, chordal, hypnotic rhythms has moved the trio from hosting sessions in punk pubs, to street gigs outside student bars and now on to wider folk audiences. Toughened by a busy performance schedule, their anticipated debut album ‘First Time at a War’, was recorded in just three days and is set for release on 29th November 2025. Initial reviews show that the band’s passion and musicality is coming across well.

“Great drive… unique and likeable.” Old Time News

“A powerhouse group… incredible musicianship.” Festival of Nature 2025
