THE AWKWARD SILENCES

Led by author, musician and disability campaigner Paul Hawkins, the Awkward Silences combine off-kilter Daniel Johnston-eqsque pop with the music hall wit of Ian Dury and the showmanship of the Bad Seeds or the Flaming Lips. The band cut their teeth at the infamous Blang Nights and Antifolk Festivals at the 12 Bar Club in the early 2000s and have performed at Latitude, Kendal Calling and the South Bank Centre as well as recording a Radio 1 session at the BBC’s famous Maida Vale Studios.

RED PERIL

Arising from the ashes of Madonnatron, Red Peril is the new endeavour of London-based Italian-Mexican musician Stefania F. Cardenas. In her previous incarnation, as singer and guitarist of post-punk ensemble Madonnatron, Cardenas crafted the raw and dark atmospheres that characterised the band’s sound. In this new project, she is conjuring behind drum machines and synthesizers, casting mystical spells reminiscent of Italo Disco, with Dexter Krenal (Pregoblin) thickening the sonic waves with guitar, effects and vocals.
