This year marks the tenth anniversary of the death of legendary guitarist Paco de Lucía. This concert pays tribute, featuring a piece that became one of his most iconic recordings: Joaquín Rodrigo’s El Concierto de Aranjuez. There’s music by eminent Spanish composers including Manuel de Falla, Isaac Albéniz and Francisco Tarrega, as well as music that takes inspiration from Spanish culture, including an aria from Georges Bizet’s opera Carmen and the overture to Gioacchino Rossini’s The Barber of Seville.
The Madrid Philharmonic Orchestra has been performing Spanish repertoire for over 20 years. Tonight they’re joined by guitarist Alejandro Hurtado and flamenco dancer Inmaculada Salomón to bring the sights and sounds of Spain to London.
