Cafè Oto, E8 3DL , [Venue Details]Last spring, Cologne-based musician Luise Volkmann travelled to Brazil for the first time with her saxophone. Since 2008, when she lived in the coast city Natal for a year as a student, she had returned to the country several times, but never to make professional contacts.
During her first artist residency in São Paulo, she met guitarist Kiko Dinucci. Together they recorded the album Enxame (engl. swarm). An improvised 30-minute album that fuses the sounds of both cultures in an experimental and powerful way.
Kiko Dinucci has his musical roots in punk and rock on the one hand, and in the Brazilian musical tradition of MPB (Musica Popular Brasileira) on the other. Uncompromising as a composer and guitarist, he has founded internationally renowned bands such as Metá Metá and Passo Torto.
Luise Volkmann has been familiar with Brazilian music culture since the age of sixteen - she herself comes from a background of jazz and improvised music. Having travelled to Brazil many times and speaking Portuguese fluently, it has long been her wish to establish musical links with Brazil. This became a reality in 2023 when she travelled to the music capital of São Paulo.
