Clare O’Connell
Kings Place, Hall Two, N1 9AG , [Venue Details]This event will last approximately 90 minutes, including an interval.
In an intimate in the round setting, cellist Clare O’Connell presents music from her new album on NMC Recordings, ‘Light Flowing’: a radiant body of newly commissioned work for solo and layered cello inspired by concepts of light, depth, simplicity and the search for a perfect line.
From the clean lines of Edmund Finnis’ breathtakingly transparent writing for solo cello, Clare O’Connell moves to impassioned polyphony in Natalie Klouda’s ŪhtĊeare, inspired by the faint but rising midsummer sun. Using loops and layering Emilie Levienaise Farrouch refracts the sound world of each open string into individual elements, ranging from from woodland dark greens to rich feminine textures with resonant depth. Emily Hall’s You Sail to the Sky is a piece of perfect minimalism; inspired by Nick Drake’s Cello Song, its undulating harmonics and slowly modulating double stops taking us to heaven, and Nick Martin’s Vocalise, a piece of profoundly emotive, multi layered writing expresses love and longing at the deepest level.
