Pizza Express Jazz Club, W1D 3RW , [Venue Details]Makam Salam is a musical collective founded and led by musicians identifying as Palestinian-Israeli, a Jewish-Israeli and British Jewish.
The collective is formed of musicians from Israel/Palestine, Syria, Lebanon, Iraq, Kurdish-Iraq, Afghanistan, Morroco and Turkey - as well as Jewish, Muslim and Christians musicians from across the world. They welcome all to join the Makam Salam community, a 'makom shalom' - a place for peace. As a collective of highly-skilled jazz musicians, Makam Salam is on a healing, musical journey of peace, fueled by compassion, humility, equality, justice, dialogue, and friendship. This journey began with their inaugural performance, a headline, highly-acclaimed, multidisciplinary live art concert at London's Stone Nest. They now return, continuing to embolden us all to hope, listen, take action and spread our positive ripples into the world. They feel great privilege to be doing so at PizzaExpress Jazz Club.
Yet midst the anguish, pain, and loss, these musicians have come together as a collective of art-ivists for peace. Born from the shared realities of the Holy Land, Makam Salam's lives are intertwined and their futures, bound.
