THE WALL
100 Club, W1D 1LL , [Venue Details]The Wall play their only official headline London date at the 100 Club, where they last played in 2016, the first punk band to have a record produced by an ex-Sex Pistol – Steve Jones.
Their first single ‘New Way’, on Pete Stennett’s legendary Small Wonder label, was heavily championed by John Peel and sold well over 10,000 copies, with Ian Lowery becoming one of Peel’s favourite vocalists, later influencing Kurt Cobain and the post punk era. The Wall toured regularly with the likes of Crass, the Angelic Upstarts and Stiff Little Fingers – the ‘Go For It’ UK tour being especially memorable, as The Wall received encores at many venues, a rare occurrence for guest bands in the early 80’s. Their classic single ‘Ghetto’, produced by Jimmy Pursey (Sham 69) to this day regularly appears on punk ‘best of’ lists. After these successes the band signed to Polydor Records, releasing ‘Dirges and Anthems’, produced by Pete Wilson and Dennis Munday (Sham 69/The Jam) and continued until late ’83 and punk’s demise.
The Wall reformed back in 2007/8 and 2016/17 and reform again to play the Rebellion festival alongside various UK appearances. The 100 Club gig being very special, as a remembrance night for late members of the band.
