Alex Garnett

606 Club, SW10 0QD , [Venue Details]

Alex Garnett’s powerful, flowing, hard bop sax has been heard with some of Europe's leading bands, performing in over 30 countries with artists such as Wynton Marsalis, Van Morrison and Jools Holland.

Saturday,
26 Apr 2025
@9.00pm

Tonight Alex will be paying tribute to one of the greatest saxophonists of all time, Dexter Gordon. The first musician to develop a convincing individual bebop style of modern jazz on the tenor saxophone, Dexter’s hard-toned original sound was a powerful influence on the likes of jazz masters Sonny Rollins and John Coltrane. This evening Alex will, as he puts it “delve into a veritable treasure chest of Dexter‘s greatest compositions, focusing particularly on those that communicate the joy to be found in jazz music”. Alex resonates with Dexter‘s ethos of the importance of communicating with his audience, so in honour of the great man and his music expect tonight’s quartet performance to be “a swinging affair”!

“Alex Garnett…one of Great Britain’s most accomplished post-bop musicians” AllAboutJazz
