The Windy City Weatherbirds
Jamboree, WC1X 9HH , [Venue Details]The Windy City Weatherbirds are a fantastic London-based Swing and Dixieland band, inspired by the Chicago sounds of the 1930s to 50s!
A love of Eddie Condon, Wild Bill Davison, Muggsy Spanier, Bobby Hackett, Jack Teagarden and Alex Welsh brought together the three brothers who formed the band – Magnus, Joe and Daniel Pickering (on trumpet, clarinet and trombone). They are a hard-hitting frontline that, together with some of London’s finest early jazz rhythm players, has performed up and down the length of the UK to club and festival audiences. Their first album ‘The Lightship Session’ was released last year.
“Even if you have a shelf full of the most revered versions of these jazz classics, you owe it to your ears to give the Windy City Weatherbirds a deep and unskeptical hearing… They have the right spirit and the technique to bring it to fruition.” – Michael Steinman, ‘Jazz Lives’, September 2024
