The Tallis Scholars - The Earth Moves (Spem in alium)
Cadogan Hall, SW1X 9DQ , [Venue Details]The Tallis Scholars present two of the largest choral works to come from the Renaissance period.
Tallis‘ 40-part motet Spem in alium, cast in five eight-part choirs, needs little introduction, but Brumel‘s 12-part ‘Earthquake’ Mass is just now beginning to be recognised for the masterpiece it is.
In a musical style all its own, Brumel’s invention never flags, producing across a work which lasts nearly 50 minutes, a kaleidoscope of patterns, textures and rhythmic excitements. Truly a bucket-list piece.
