Anam - Music to move the soul

St Giles Cripplegate Church, EC2Y 8DA , [Venue Details]

As part of VOCES8’s 20th anniversary celebrations, sister ensemble APOLLO5 celebrates its own 15th anniversary performing the group’s new album Anam.

Sunday,
8 Jun 2025
@1.30pm

For this project, APOLLO5 has compiled sacred and secular settings of texts by composers past and present, absorbing madrigals, folk and contemporary choral music into a programme of “music to move the soul”.

Anam – which is the word for 'the soul' in Gaelic – is far-reaching in style and geography: a number of the pieces have a strong Scottish or Irish connection, but there are also excursions to Renaissance Italy, Victorian England and present-day North America. Celebrating the rich bardic tradition inspired by human emotion, landscape and heritage, the pieces on Anam are rooted in the essential role of music and words: to stir something in us, to encourage, to comfort, to guide, and to empower.

  • Admission: £25.00
