Petrella won the Down Beat Critics Poll 'rising stars' category twice and has worked in the field for over 20 years. He formed a strong bond with Enrico Rava and collaborated with many prestigious artists including the Sun Ra Arkestra, Carla Blay, Paolo Fresu, Matmos, Lester Bowie, Manu Di Bango, Pat Metheny, John De Leo, DJ Ralf, Ricardo Villalobos, Max Loderbauer, and Moritz von Oswald. He has a decade-long collaboration with Nicola Conte and creates original works for cinema, dance and theatre productions.
