The Cardinall’s Musick - The Price of Love

Cadogan Hall, SW1X 9DQ , [Venue Details]

A programme which juxtaposes love for God with love for another person, and considers the emotions and experiences that result.

Monday,
21 Jul 2025
@7.30pm

It also features the second performance of Julian Anderson’s stunning madrigal Nothing at all and a rare opportunity to hear some of the Ten Blake Songs written right at the end of Vaughan Williams’ life.

Love for God sees Mary Magdalene’s searching for Jesus after his death in Victoria’s six-part masterpiece, and William Byrd’s stubborn and resolute clinging to his Catholic faith in spite of the political and social censure of the times. The ultimate betrayal – Judas handing over Jesus to the authorities – sits at the centre of the second half.
