The Karolos Trio

Highgate Literary & Scientific Institution, Victoria Hall, N6 6BS , [Venue Details]

We are starting the new season featuring one of Mozart’s most mellifluous and enchanting works, his Divertimenti in E Flat.

Wednesday,
15 Oct 2025
@7.30pm

“(The) musical complexity and the depth of expression which Mozart achieves through only three voices are seemingly miraculous,” says the liner notes of the Karolos Trio’s new album. It also features new works by jazz legend Julian Joseph, specially commissioned by the Karolos Trio and two short movements by South African composer Robert Fokken. Also on the programme but not on their new album is Schubert’s intriguing one movement work in B Flat (the rest is lost). The Karolos Trio is led by violin dynamo Harriet MacKenzie who some of you will remember from the March 2023 appearance of the Kosmos Ensemble.

Schubert (1787 – 1828) – string trio in B flat, D471, Allegro

Julian Joseph – Sweet Blue Blues (written for Karolos)

Robert Fokkens: 1. Dawn Chants on the Umfolozi (2007) 2. World Premiere

Mozart (1756 – 1791) – Divertimento for string trio in E flat K.563

The concert will finish at approximately 9:30pm after which complimentary wine and other drinks will be served in the Members’ Room
