London Symphony Orchestra/Sir Antonio Pappano Strauss' Salome
Barbican Hall, EC2Y 8DS , [Venue Details]A climactic close to the LSO's 2024/25 season: Sir Antonio Pappano leads concert performances of Strauss’ Salome. Acclaimed soprano Asmik Grigorian takes on the title role.
Strauss’ Salome is one of the most compelling operas of the early 20th century – a one-act drama of obsession, prophecy and violent desire. Based on Oscar Wilde’s play, the opera caused a sensation at its premiere and retains its impact today. This is Strauss at his most daring and dramatic.
Following his acclaimed La rondine with the LSO – where OperaWire hailed his ‘command’ and the ‘sight to behold’ of his conducting – Sir Antonio Pappano returns to the concert stage with the full force of Strauss’ Salome. In Asmik Grigorian, he is joined by a star soprano renowned for her performances in this role. Together with the LSO, they deliver an unmissable season finale that places the music – and its electrifying drama – front and centre.
