The Hackney Singers has grown from strength to strength from its origins in 1973 as an evening class at Hackney Institute. Proudly cherishing its community roots, the choir – now 150-strong - puts on 3 or 4 concerts a year, often in Hackney venues, but also at the Royal Festival Hall!

Inspired by musical director Dan Ludford-Thomas, Hackney Singers will be joined by three exceptionally talented young musicians: mezzo soprano Niamh Kearney, baritone Alex Bower-Brown and organist James Orford.

The concert will feature Maurice Durufle’s uplifting Requiem of 1948 and John Tavener’s Song for Athene of 1993, famously performed at the funeral of Diana, Princess of Wales in 1997, are joined by Jonathan Dove’s Seek Him that Maketh the Seven Stars, 1995, a setting of verses from the Book of Amos and Psalm 139.
