Mahan Esfahani dives deeply into the stream of Spanish Baroque music to retrieve works by Juan Bautista Cabanilles, organist of Valencia Cathedral, Padre Antonio Soler and Cantallos, virtually unknown but for his Sonata in C, a composition inspired by the sonatas of Domenico Scarlatti. His programme pays tribute to Scarlatti’s inventive genius and to the improvisatory freedom of CPE Bach’s quixotic Fantasia in C.
