The Outcry Ensemble | Britten's War Requiem
Southwark Cathedral, SE1 9DA , [Venue Details]The Outcry Ensemble is very proud that this special event, the day before Remembrance Sunday, is in collaboration with the Royal British Legion. We would like to encourage all concert goers to make a donation to this wonderful charity and support the work they do for Veterans.
The Children’s Choir will include pupils from George Green’s School (GGS) and St Paul’s Way Trust School, two schools The Outcry Ensemble is collaborating with as part of its growing community engagement and outreach programme, in partnership with Sizewell Creative. They will be joined by members of the Pembroke College, Cambridge girls' choir, directed by Luke Fitzgerald.
As part of The Outcry Ensemble’s established tradition, there will be a pre-concert talk from 6pm – 7pm with guests including former Archbishop of Canterbury, Lord Rowan Williams.
Join The Outcry Ensemble for a monumental performance of Britten’s War Requiem, a masterpiece of 20th-century choral music featuring three soloists, a large chorus, a children’s choir, and two orchestras. Interweaving the Latin Requiem Mass with Wilfred Owen’s powerful anti-war poetry, Britten’s profound work conveys the futility and tragedy of war. This performance gains added poignancy as it takes place on the eve of Remembrance Sunday, eighty years after the end of World War Two.
