Launching a new international partnership with the Yachiyoza Theatre of Kumamoto, Japan, Opera Holland Park is delighted to host the UK premiere of The Bamboo Princess.
Based on the ancient folk tale of The Bamboo Cutter, perhaps best known to Western audiences from writer-director Isao Takahata’s 2013 animated film, The Tale of the Princess Kaguya, for Studio Ghibli, the opera combines delicate, shimmering orchestration with elegantly curving melodies. A poignant story of impossible love with elements of Rusalka and of Turandot, and a musical voice seldom heard in London. Casting and further details will be announced in the coming months.
