THE JETSET
100 Club, W1D 1LL , [Venue Details]The Jetset are very difficult to pigeon hole into a genre – part of the Mod Revival? Bubblegum pop pioneers? Rutles / Monkees / 60s pop lovers certainly with big ideas to do something different.
Formed in 1979 by Paul Bevoir and Melvyn J Taub they quickly enlisted Angus Nanan and Paul Bonin to join the crew after a suggestion from Secret Affair drummer Paul Bultitude who had heard a batch of demo’s from Paul and Melvyn.
A debut E. P. on Bultitude’s ‘Dance Network’ label was followed by debut LP ‘There Goes the Neighbourhood’ and successive ‘Go Banana’s’, ‘April, June & The Jetset’ and the Beatles Sgt Pepper-tinged ‘Vaudeville Park’.
Things came to a head in 1988 with ‘Five’ being the last release. Time passed and so it came with the unfortunate passing of Melvyn a recognition from the rest of the band to perform (maybe) one last time with a fitting tribute to the charismatic frontman.
What better venue than the 100 Club for this to happen as The Jetset played there many times and have a new LP out entitled. ‘Live At The 100 Club’ 1986 out on Heavy Soul Records now. .
Much loved by the Mod fraternity, pop-lovers and anyone with an ear to well-crafted songs, The Jetset took in the music of their heroes and created a unique sound that can be heard live one last time (maybe)….
