He places Morton Feldman’s final piano work, inspired by the painting he saw at the Louvre in Paris of ruins of the ancient Babylonian Palace of Mari, as a bridge between Robert Schumann’s delightful ‘Scenes from Childhood’ and Schubert’s spellbinding Fantasy Sonata.
