This programme weaves together a landmark new commission with two era-defining masterpieces, exploring how composers respond to memory, longing and transformation. From Mendelssohn’s youthful intensity to Brahms’ turbulent majesty, the concert journeys through deeply expressive sound worlds.

Mendelssohn’s A minor Quartet, Op. 13 opens the evening with its impassioned lyricism and heartfelt introspection, written when the composer was just eighteen. Ogawa then joins the Piatti Quartet for the world premiere of Joseph Phibbs’ Piano Quintet, commissioned by Kings Place Music Foundation.
