Deptford Dub Club: 70s Roots Extravaganza
The Fox and Firkin, SE13 6JZ , [Venue Details]An evening of music of Jamaican origin including Ska and vintage Reggae, but focusing this month on Rocksteady. With rhythms provided by a tag team of stand out selectors niced up by live vocals, horns percusion and MCs. Also featuring music piped to a glorious extensive garden for summer chilling
This evening session is a celebration of the developments in Roots Reggae 50 years ago; from King Tubby’s dubs to vocalists and instrumentalists like Hugh Mundell and Augustus Pablo. Running tings will be the 4 horsemen.
Ras Danny Dread, will be spinning to close the show. He’s widely known through his work with the monumental Jah Shaka Soundsystem, over many decades. Drop da Biscuit is another mainstay of the D.D.C. and is a familiar presence on the London Revive scene. He rarely leaves his yard without the tunes, that are our focus tonight, in his boxes. Soft Wax is the resident selector at the Dub Club and loves his mid 70s Roots. We’re thrilled to announce Selector Becca as a late addition to the bill and love the 70s vibes
As ever, the tunes will be supplemented by live action on the mic from our residents. The Singjay MC Doc Murdoc is absolutely guaranteed to nice up any dance. The D.D.C. Horns are led by Tombone ( of The Dub Pistols.) Also this night will co-incide with the release of Prince Fatty’s re-lick of “ Air, Earth, Fire and Water” by Paul Whiteman. The Prince will be spinning his new record at our show. He’ll also be providing live mixes on the mixing desk, throughout the evening.
