Five-Way Split
Pizza Express Jazz Club, W1D 3RW , [Venue Details]London-based Five-Way Split present their 2nd album ‘Modus Operandi’, providing a continuation of the straight-ahead contemporary bop which was the hallmark of their standout 2023 debut ‘All The Way’.
Formed and crafted during weeks and months of rehearsal throughout the 2020 lockdown, the ‘Split’ take the lineage of hard bop giants ‘Art Blakey & The Jazz Messengers’, infuse the modern day sound of New York super group ‘One For All ’ and have created their own unique take on the genre.
With their debut release shortlisted on several end- of- year “best of” album lists, and nominated in ‘Best Ensemble’ category at last year’s Parliamentary Jazz Awards, their second album release ‘Modus Operandi’ commands high expectations indeed. Expect snappy, melodic and harmonically nuanced themes from the pen of pianist Rob Barron, Ronnie Scott’s Club veteran trumpeter, Quentin Collins and sax super- power Vasilis Xenopoulos. As before, the horns are underpinned by the ever in -sync rhythm team of bassist Matyas Hofecker & UK drum stalwart Matt Home.
