The Bill Geldard Big Band, directed by Barry Forgie, returns to the Cryer with a programme of
famous tunes from the theatre and cinema.
Band numbers will include hits from the Broadway stage, such as ‘The Continental’, ‘Hello
Dolly’ and ‘Strike up the Band’; ‘St Louis Blues March’ and ‘Sing, Sing, Sing’ from the Glenn
Miller and Benny Goodman biopics, and themes from ‘Shaft’, ‘Peter Gunn’ and ‘The Pink
Panther’ will also be featured. Songs from Cole Porter, Disney and George Gershwin will be
sung by Chrissie Scott, notably ‘Anything Goes’, ‘He’s a Tramp’ and ‘SWonderful’.
Bill Geldard, a session trombonist and composer/arranger, founded this band in 1962 from
talented amateurs and professional musicians, whilst Chrissie Scott became a professional
singer at the age of sixteen with Ray McVay’s band, thereafter working with the New
Squadronaires and broadcasting with all the BBC orchestras and big bands.
