Verdi: Requiem & Jamie Powe: Gun Mass
Cadogan Hall, SW1X 9DQ , [Venue Details]For the first time, four London choirs conducted by Jamie Powe – The Aubrey Singers, The Fourth Choir, New London Singers and Putney Choral Society – join forces with a 60-piece orchestra to perform Verdi’s monumental Messa da Requiem. An outstanding quartet of soloists joins the 250 performers.
One of the most powerful works in the choral repertoire, Verdi’s Requiem blurs the boundaries between opera and sacred music, its drama and beauty speaking as urgently today as it did 150 years ago.
The programme also includes the first performance at Cadogan Hall of Jamie Powe’s Gun Mass, a poignant Missa brevis for double choir that brings to musical life Haley Hodge’s evocative poetry of grief and loss, written in response to the contemporary phenomenon of mass shootings.
