Now reunited as labelmates on celebrated indie imprint Sonic Cathedral, both bands grew out of the fertile UK shoegaze-adjacent scene of the early 2000s – the former more influenced by krautrock and drone, the latter combining post-rock and harmonies – but they’ve been silent for the best part of a decade. Until now.
The Early Years released their long-awaited third album, Modern Moonlight, at the end of May to great acclaim, while Sennen are also gearing up to share their first new material in over a decade.
Sennen formed in Norwich in 2002 and released their hugely acclaimed debut album Widows in 2005. Its blend of post-rock soundscapes and indie-pop harmonies made it stand out, and they went on to release another four albums and tour extensively over the following years.
Their most recent album was 2016’s First Light, and other than three dates to promote a reissue of Widows in 2021 – their first release for Sonic Cathedral – they’ve not toured since.
