Christian Gerhaher baritone; Gerold Huber piano
Wigmore Hall, W1U 2BP , [Venue Details]This concert will be approximately 2 hours in duration, including an interval
Christian Gerhaher and Gerold Huber, among the great partnerships in Lieder interpretation, grace the celebrations of Schubert’s birthday at Wigmore Hall with this unmissable programme. Their recital unfolds as a deep meditation on the afterglow of the day, the abendröte or ‘evening red’, a magical, mysterious time of transition. They interleave some of Schubert’s finest songs, Die Gebüsche and Der Wanderer among them, with a selection of beguiling pieces from Manfred Trojahn’s 2012 song cycle Abendröte, settings of the poems from Schlegel’s Abendröthe that Schubert overlooked.
