London Schools Symphony Orchestra: Voyages and Visions
Fairfield Halls, Concert Hall, CR9 1DG , [Venue Details]The London Schools Symphony Orchestra brings together teenage musicians from across the capital who share a deep commitment to music-making at the highest level.
This performance is the final concert of our season, representing the culmination of a full year of intensive music-making, collaboration, and artistic growth with professional conductors and tutors.
Few musical experiences match the explosive energy and emotional intensity of a live orchestra. Orchestral music allows us to tell stories without words – stories of myth, adventure, drama and imagination – and this programme invites audiences to experience that journey in all its colour and scale.
Our musical voyage sets sail with the dramatic, wind-swept coastlines of Ethel Smyth’s Overture to The Wreckers, launching a journey defined by the raw power of the ocean. This physical voyage turns inward with John Pickard’s Sea-Change, exploring shifting, unsettling visions of the deep, before channelling the untamed, defiant energy of the waves in Anna Clyne’s Restless Oceans.
Finally, the orchestra brings to life the thrilling tales and dazzling exoticism of Rimsky-Korsakov’s masterpiece, Scheherazade, where the sea becomes a canvas for vivid, legendary visions of dangerous voyages and ultimate triumph.
