Housemates 2024: Nocturnal Sun
Brixton House, Theatre One, SW9 8GL , [Venue Details]An inter-disciplinary performance piece that combines music, movement and visual art. Nocturnal Sun centres around themes of human history, spirituality and ecology.
A world in and of itself since its inception, Nocturnal Sun has become Agor’s vehicle to explore alternate possibilities, examine our connections to our shared human histories, reconnect to cultures, cosmologies and envision futures. While music forms the core of the project, blending the Classical, Folk, Electronic, Jazz, Avant Garde and West African traditions with poetry and storytelling, Agor’s visual art, costume and movement combine to establish a language of its own.
Movement I: Dust explores humanities relationship with the sun, set in a world where the nearest star is dying. The full piece follows humanity reflecting on our inter-personal, ecological and internal relationships and conflicts in different movements or ‘moving sound paintings.’ At the foundation of the project is Chisara’s practice as a philosopher looking at pre colonial cosmology including exploring her own heritage from the Igbo people of Nigeria and Jamaican myth and legend.
Nocturnal Sun: Dust was awarded the George Butterworth Award for Composition in June 2023.
