Hanni Liang is a pianist, concert creator, lecturer at the University of Music and Theatre Munich and founder of the TONALiSTEN Collective. In her works, she addresses artistically topics of today and understands the concert as an open room for encounters, questions and reflection.

The idea for the concert started with the new album release featuring solo piano works by contemporary female composers such as Errollyn Wallen, Chen Yi, Sally Beamish, and Eleanor Alberga, combined with music by British composer, suffragette, and author Ethel Smyth. Although Smyth was admired by male colleagues such as Claude Debussy and Gustav Mahler, she spent her whole life fighting to be heard as a woman and a composer. In the suffragette movement, she raised her voice, was imprisoned in Holloway Prison for her activism, and even there, she continued to conduct the hymn of the movement, “The March of the Women,” with a toothbrush.n.
