The Modern first took shape in 2001 around Nathan Cooper and Chi Tudor-Hart under the name Dirty Blonde. When vocalist Emma Cooke joined the group in 2003, the band rechristened themselves The Modern, and a sharper, brighter synth-pop identity began to emerge.

Under the name ShitKid, Swedish anti-pop vocalist/songwriter Åsa Söderqvist uses elements of lo-fi, synth pop, and garage-punk to make abrasive but engaging music that confuses the boundaries of chaos and pop.

“Pop music for feeling feelings” is how Amelia Meath and Nick Sanborn – aka Sylvan Esso – sum up their quirky synth projects. A chance meeting in a Milwaukee club led to the duo’s formation, with Sanborn’s throbbing electronic productions blending with Meath’s earthy folk tone.
