Josephine Illingworth + Barish
The Fox and Firkin, SE13 6JZ , [Venue Details]Josephine Illingworth is a London-based musician and artist who paints pictures with sound. A long-distance hiker and chronic wanderer, she constructs her songs as journeys, weaving stark poetry, folklore, glimmering guitar and field recordings into a soundscape that feels almost tactile.
Fascinated by nature and religion, her songwriting is built of her own personal mythology; memories of her suburban childhood and stories from the fields and mountains she wandered to once she grew up, twisted through the vivid and sometimes surreal lens of her lyricism. It’s a sound that has resonated with fans worldwide, after her track ‘Silent Earth’ caught the attention of millions cementing her as one of the most eagerly anticipated voices of today.
Simultaneously excelling in the live arena, Josephine’s performances have been captivating audiences across several sold-out venues in London.
Support comes from Barish who stole their name from the male lead in Eternal Sunshine, and are paying him back by writing and performing heartfelt, gently glimmering tunes in the hope that they can cheer him up. The duo consists of guitarists and singer-songwriters Jake Raywood and Jeanie Purselose, who met in the Norwich open mic scene. Barish is an amalgamation of their differing writing styles, a meeting of each other in a melodic, enchantingly folky soft-rock embrace.
