Sam Braysher Trio plays Harold Arlen

Green Note Ltd, The Basement Bar, NW1 7AN , [Venue Details]

Sam Braysher, “whose warm tone and consonant and inquisitive approach to harmony is attracting growing attention on the British jazz scene” (All About Jazz), is a London-based alto saxophonist, who has received international critical acclaim for his three albums to date.

Sunday,
18 May 2025
@8.00pm

Playing in an intimate trio setting, he is joined by in-demand young double bassist Jack Garside (Mark Kavuma and The Banger Factory) and master guitarist Colin Oxley (Stacey Kent, Dave Newton). This show will take a look at the songs of Harold Arlen, the composer of “Somewhere Over the Rainbow”, “Get Happy” and “Stormy Weather”. Expect to hear swinging arrangements of classic and lesser-known tunes by one of the greatest American songwriters of the 20th Century.

“I can’t think of another alto saxophonist with a sound quite like Sam Braysher’s” **** Dave Gelly, The Observer

“Braysher’s cool, modernist twist on old songs is just superb” Simon Adams, Jazz Journal

“Saxophonist Sam Braysher is like a breath of fresh air. He has an alto sound that doesn’t sound like anyone else, and is a throwback to the classic jazz of the 1950s with a contemporary twist”. Jazz Views
