Adrian Utley/Eddie Henderson Project
Ronnie Scott's Jazz Club, W1D 4HT , [Venue Details]Adrian Utley joins jazz trumpet legend Eddie Henderson in an all-star quintet featuring drummer Seb Rochford, pianist Mark Edwards and bassist Arnie Somogyi.
Adrian Utley, famed for his role in the ground-breaking band Portishead, has also collaborated with an eclectic range of artists, from Tom Jones to Marianne Faithfull, Anna Calvi and Will Gregory. His passion for jazz and improvisation shines in this special project.
Eddie Henderson, a towering figure in jazz, was encouraged by Miles Davis to take up trumpet, eventually joining Herbie Hancock’s trailblazing Mwandishi sextet in the late 1960s. Across decades, he has pushed musical boundaries, with acclaimed albums like Realization and his 2023 release Witness to History, which topped the Jazz Week charts.
Utley reflects on Henderson’s influence: “I bought Realization in the mid-70s without knowing anything about it, and I’ve played it endlessly since. I love the fusion of electronics and acoustic music and the spacious almost ambient vibe of that recording, and performing live with Eddie, whose sound I know so well, is hugely exciting.”
Expect a mesmerising evening of improvisation, virtuosity and genre-defying creativity.
