Maryen Cairns + Charles Gorrie
The Troubadour, SW5 9JA , [Venue Details]Returning to play in London after 28 years, here is singer songwriter Maryen Cairns taking to the stage one-woman-band style!
“Flitting between piano and acoustic guitar - and occasional percussion - Cairns confirms her musical ability, as well as her instrumental juggling skills, and when you factor in that she’s also singing along to everything as she goes, it’s no small feat. What this one woman set also shines a light on is the lyrical prowess to be found here, a mixture of what I guess are autobiographical tales and some stories being regaled, the likes of “Kids From The Burbs”, “The Smuggler’s Tale” and “Voices From Scotland” hit even harder than their studio counterparts” - Steven Reid, Sea of Tranquility
A Scottish born Australian now living in Guernsey, singer-songwriter Maryen Cairns pivots on a cajón between a guitar, piano & percussion, telling stories of smugglers, strong women and of hope for the future, with solo stripped back arrangements creating a primal and beautiful sonic backdrop.
CHARLES GORRIE is a Glasgow based Poet, Singer/Songwriter & Martial Arts Guru with an interest in personal alchemy whether from west or east.
