Formed in 2018 by alto saxophonist, composer, and producer Logan Richardson, the group draws inspiration from Amiri Baraka’s blues people: Negro Music in White America, channelling the history, struggle, and innovation of Black music into a sound that is both rooted and radical.
Born in Kansas City - a city steeped in jazz heritage - Richardson has worked with luminaries like Pat Metheny and Jason Moran and is celebrated for his fearless contributions to contemporary jazz. blues PEOPLE features a dynamic configuration of straight alto saxophone, electric vibraphone, synthesizer, electric guitar, electric bass, and drums - together creating a bold, genre-blending sonic identity.
Their self-titled debut album is a raw, unfiltered statement, fusing Kansas City blues with rock, soul, and avant-garde jazz. Their latest release, Sacred Garden (2024), continues this evolution with immersive textures, spiritual urgency, and boundary-pushing ensemble interplay.
