"Almost all the tropes of the piano trio are summarily swept aside by Sophie Agnel (piano), John Edwards (double bass) and Steve Noble (drums) during the course of their two-night residency at Café Oto in June. No superfluous or decorative tinkling to be heard here. Each instrument has the sound of surprise wrung out of it, and the triangular relationship between the three of them is twisted and turned inside out.
