Ronnie Scott's Jazz Club, W1D 4HT , [Venue Details]Babo Moreno is the bold new project from London-based drummer and percussionist Fabio De Oliveira, a musician at the heart of the UK jazz scene and a proud bearer of Brazil’s rhythmic legacy.
Raised in London by Brazilian parents, Fabio weaves the deep-rooted traditions of Forró, Ijexá and Maracatu into the language of contemporary British jazz, creating music that is rhythmically rich, harmonically adventurous and unmistakably personal.
The son of legendary percussionist Bosco De Oliveira (founder of the London School of Samba), Fabio’s musical upbringing was steeped in Brazilian culture while his career has seen him collaborate with an extraordinary range of artists including Sault, Little Simz, Jacob Collier, Jamie Cullum, Alfa Mist, Jordan Rakei, Airto Moreira and more. He is also a long-standing member of Jamiroquai's touring band, contributing to their dynamic live sound.
As Babo Moreno, he steps firmly into the spotlight with music that explores themes of identity, migration and second-generation experience - an exuberant blend of Brazilian roots and London swagger. Championed by Gilles Peterson, Jamie Cullum (“one of my tracks of the year”) and Jazz FM, and following a sold-out performance at the London Latin Jazz Festival and his selection as a Rising Talent by La Linea Festival, this is a project making waves.
