Despite many line‑up changes since the late 1960s, the band’s commitment to musical exploration remains constant, moving fluidly between progressive jazz‑rock, atmospheric psychedelia, free improvisation and ambient looping. Thirteen showcases long‑time guitarist John Etheridge, a member for over five decades, alongside major compositional contributions from saxophonist, flautist and keyboardist Theo Travis. Meanwhile, newest member, drummer and composer Asaf Sirkis, brings a dynamic presence praised by former Soft Machine drummer Robert Wyatt for his “ethereal, haunting compositions.”
