Jacques Schwarz-Bart Quartet
Ronnie Scott's Jazz Club, W1D 4HT , [Venue Details]Born in Guadeloupe to acclaimed literary parents, Jacques Schwarz-Bart has been at the centre of several musical revolutions.
He helped shape neo-soul alongside D’Angelo and Erykah Badu, and was a founding member of Roy Hargrove’s RH Factor, pushing the boundaries of modern jazz. Along the way, he pioneered two surging new styles - Gwoka Jazz and Voodoo Jazz - that fuse Afro-Caribbean rhythms with jazz’s harmonic and improvisational depth.
Jacques' new project, entitled Resistance, is a direct response to the rise of fascism and political turmoil, particularly in Western democracies. Composed over the past six months, these compositions are an emotional and artistic reaction to the sense of loss many have felt, channelling Schwarz-Bart’s deep musical legacy: jazz language, Afro-Caribbean rhythms and melodies, and impressionist harmony.
The intensity of the music makes this work stand apart, offering a profound statement of hope, love, and resilience in turbulent times.
