David Toop / Ecka Mordecai / Christian Kobi
Cafè Oto, E8 3DL , [Venue Details]Pleased to welcome back the improvising trio of Ecka Mordecai (cello), Christian Kobi (soprano and tenor sax) and David Toop (objects) following the release of their 2024 Cafe OTO set on Tokyo's Meenna record label.
Throughout that performance, the disparate sounds of the three musicians intertwined in an organic way, resulting in improvised music of outstanding quality.
David Toop has been developing a practice that crosses boundaries of sound, listening, music, and materials since 1970. This encompasses improvised music performance, writing, electronic sound, field recording, exhibition curating, sound art installations, and opera. It includes eight acclaimed books, including Rap Attack (1984), Ocean of Sound (1995), Sinister Resonance (2010), Into the Maelstrom (2016), Flutter Echo (2019), and Inflamed Invisible: Writing On Art and Sound 1976-2018 (2019).
Ecka Mordecai is a British artist based in London. Situated between sonic, performative, and olfactory disciplines, her work is driven by sensation: entwining cello, horsehair harp, voice, eggflute, scent, and improvisation into time-based objects expressive of emotional complexity.
His work explores the relationship between sound, silence, and action in space. He studied music in Basel, Paris, and Zuerich, with a concentration in experimental music and improvisation.
