Rachael Sage & Friends
The Pheasantry, SW3 4UT , [Venue Details]Vibrant, Americana-Jazz-Pop singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Rachael Sage returns to PizzaExpress Live to celebrate her new acoustic album Under My Canopy.
Accompanied by a sparkling string section, Sage – whose diverse collaborators and tour-mates have included Judy Collins, Rufus Wainwright, Lulu and Howard Jones – will perform her latest material alongside selections from her 20+ albums and EP's, released on her own pioneering indie label MPress Records.
An accomplished visual artist as well as a former dancer with The New York City Ballet, Sage always brings a healthy dose of humour, uplift and inclusivity to her one-of-a-kind, heavily improvised performances.
Rachael Sage emerged from NYC's East Village music scene, cutting her artistic teeth at seminal clubs like The Bitter End and downtown Irish venue Sin-é alongside early idols including Jeff Buckley and Shane MacGowan. Irrepressibly romantic and unabashedly feminist – her first tours were with trailblazing punk-folk icon Ani DiFranco and Lilith Fair – Sage's debut material was largely confessional and musically adventurous. Her early bands featured violin, accordion, trumpet, oboe and percussion, garnering the musical description of "chamber-pop".
