Raised in a rich musical environment - her father was the renowned trumpeter Leslie 'Jiver' Hutchinson, a leading figure in Britain’s jazz and dance band scene from the 1930s onwards - Elaine naturally developed a deep connection to music.
Her stage experience is both extensive and diverse. She has appeared in Cowardy Custard at London’s Mermaid Theatre and No Strings at Her Majesty’s Theatre in the West End. She is perhaps best known for her starring role in the musical Bubbling Brown Sugar at The Royalty Theatre, London, and enjoyed success in Kern Goes to Hollywood in both London and Broadway productions. Elaine also received critical acclaim as an actress in A Map of the World at the National Theatre and appeared in Ken Russell’s film Mahler as the Bohemian Princess.
As a singer, Elaine has performed with legendary artists such as Andy Williams and Michel Legrand, and with the London Symphony Orchestra at the Royal Albert Hall. She has also headlined celebrated touring shows including Let’s Do It, a tribute to Cole Porter, and By George, It’s Gershwin, celebrating the music of Gershwin.
