Late Late show with Ebi Soda (Tru Thoughts Takeover)
Ronnie Scott's Jazz Club, W1D 4HT , [Venue Details]For one weekend, the spirit of Brighton’s Tru Thoughts lands in Soho for a late-night takeover that blurs the lines between club energy and live improvisation.
At its centre, Ebi Soda, a band rewriting the rulebook of modern jazz, bring their restless, shape-shifting sound to the stage, joined by selectors Footshooter and Tara Lily, guiding the room deep into the small hours.
Ebi Soda don’t so much play jazz as deconstruct it in real time. Born from DIY sessions in bedrooms and farmhouses, their music pulls equally from rave culture, post-punk grit and electronic experimentation, all stitched together with erratic breaks, warped textures and searing horn lines.
Live, they channel the intensity of a club night through real instrumentation, building tension, releasing it, and drawing the audience into their strange, cinematic world. Tracks from their latest album frank dean and andrew push further into this territory: hazy and off-kilter, where 808s, dubby basslines and fractured melodies collide.
Around them, Footshooter (10 July) and Tara Lily presenting Shakti Jazz (11 July) will keep the energy going, moving between soulful, percussive and forward-thinking selections that echo the band’s boundaryless approach.
