His playing is rooted in the blues but draws equally on jazz and rock, with a focus on phrasing, rhythm and musical interaction.
Alongside his work as a performer, Smith is an established producer and studio owner in Los Angeles, working on projects with artists including Eric Gales and contributing to large-scale recordings such as B.B.
