Gary Crosby’s Mingus Moves

Leytonstone Ex-Servicemens Club, Leytonstone Social Club, E11 3DB , [Venue Details]

Tuesday,
28 Jul 2026
@8.00pm

An instantly recognisable figure as he played double bass, Mingus was an imposing physical presence on stage. However, it was his skill as a composer that set him apart, bridging the eras of Ellington and Parker and into the free improvisation of the 1960s. His music continually reflected his venturesome mind, and he left behind a legacy of iconic jazz recordings. For this special celebration, Crosby will lead his quintet through his personal favourite from the Mingus catalogue Mingus Moves alongside other classic compositions.

The band come from the Tomorrows Warriors stable.

Alex Ho was the winner of the UK Critics’ Circle Young Artist Award 2021 for his “compelling and individual” works, Alex Ho is a British-Chinese composer whose music and stage works have been described as “insidiously bold” (Opera Magazine), “menacing and poetic” (The Guardian), and “important and impressive” (Opera Today). Alex is resident composer at Glyndebourne Opera (2023-26) and was Artist-in-Residence at Opéra Orchestre National Montpellier (2021-24) and Associate Composer at Oxford International Song Festival (2022-23).
