The Solomon Gundy Band
Ronnie Scott's Jazz Club, W1D 4HT , [Venue Details]The Solomon Gundy Band is the project of British trumpeter and composer Sean Corby, bringing together a cross-generational collective of musicians from the UK’s thriving jazz scene.
Fusing jazz, electronica and Afro-diasporic rhythms, their sound moves between vibrant energy and more haunting textures, combining virtuosity with a raw, working-class edge. Their debut album Hancestry, set for release in July 2026, blends soul jazz, sound-system sensibilities and improvisation into a contemporary statement that reflects both tradition and experimentation, while reflecting their elastic approach to genre.
Produced and mixed by Ashley Slater (Loose Tubes/Freak Power), Hancestry features a remarkable line-up including contributions from UK jazz legend Courtney Pine. The record bridges the pioneering spirit of the Jazz Warriors with today’s contemporary UK jazz scene, shaped by Corby’s return to the trumpet after years away from music.
Their music is as flavourful as the Jamaican dish they are named after. Solomon Gundy is a spicy Jamaican pickled herring paste, usually served with crackers as an appetiser or hors d’oeuvre. The name comes from the French “salmigondis”, meaning a disparate assembly of things, ideas or people forming an incoherent whole - a fitting reflection of their sound.
